Fun fact: I love a good list.
My attention span is short, my ADHD is strong - the best way for you to tell me something is give me a list.
Let’s get the week started with my favorite list, Good Things Good People:
Listening
Lately I’m obsessed with reporters from all aspects of media. Must be me wanting to learn how to ask better questions and share what I’ve learned:) I was pleasantly surprised to hear that Katie has a great sense of humor and no surprise - has been a go-getter from Day 1. She wasn’t going to pass up any opportunities career or otherwise. These stories made for some good entertainment, the opportunities weren’t always a success! And oh my god, you gotta hear the Larry King story.
Reading
The Kingdom of Prep: The Inside Story of the Rise (and near fall) of J Crew by Maggie Bullock
I was hesitant to read this book, I expected a story of boring statistics and names and titles of CEO’s I’ve never heard of but it was recommended by someone I trust so thought I’d give it a go. This book is not that. It is a fabulously woven story that somehow brought me back to my teen years in the 80’s (I coveted J Crew but we couldn’t afford it) and then gave me a primer (Katie Couric will tell you this is pronounced “primmer”) on what it takes to build a business and lose a business. The interesting characters of Emily Cinader Scott, Arthur Cinader, Jenna Lyons, and Mickey Drexler will keep you entertained.
Pleasantly Surprised
The Public Library!!! I feel like I’m late to the game here but I got a sudden hair to borrow my latest book from our local library. The sudden hair came after I spent $60 on two books from Amazon then dropped them off at our neighborhood Little Free Library when I was finished. Always happy to contribute but dang. $$
I got myself a free library card, “Held” a book online (Spare by Prince Harry, the Duke of Sussex), then picked it up for my 3 week reading adventure. I stood at the checkout counter and kept saying to myself “don’t be that weird lady” but I couldn’t help it - I WAS SO HAPPY to be in the library so I gushed all about it to the young lady checking me out. I’m sure it was too much but she graciously smiled and said “welcome to the library”:)
I highly recommend checking out your local library!
Stories
This is a local story that brought a happy tear to my eye and reminded me of a reporter that changed my world. As you’ll see, you really can’t miss with Mr. Rogers, you just know it’s gonna be good. Another story for another day, Nicole Brodeur (the reporter in the clip) brought my mocktail adventure to a whole new level. I’m so grateful for her interest in people, including me.
Buying
This kitchen utensil was a game changer for cooking ground meat. Way better than a spatula.
That’s all folks.
K. Be good. Or don’t;)
I devoured Kingdom of Prep! And would highly recommend Glossy by Marisa Meltzer for anyone who loves the thrill of the beauty business paired with the chaos and rollercoaster that is the human spirit.
Great list. The library is my favorite place on Earth!
