The million dollar question…what are we doing here? And where is here?
Welcome to Substack. My new favorite place where I can read and write to my hearts content, I don’t have to worry about my “feed aesthetic”, and I don’t have to spend precious minutes each day blocking naked ladies and single men that tell me I’m “the most beautiful woman they’ve every seen” from my account.
I think it might be a new favorite place for you too, a place where you can connect directly with the people and content you enjoy (right in your inbox!), no ads populating your feeds, and hopefully no naked ladies and single men sliding in to your DM’s with a “what’s up?”.
So back to the question - what are we doing here?
We are building a community and finding some inspiration in our daily lives and sometimes in the journey of others.
I won’t beat the cancer horse to death here in this specific newsletter but I need to tell you that it changed me. In tactical practical ways like I retired from 32 years of working in our family business, I cut my hair into a short gray pixie cut (thank you brain surgery), and I became the Queen of Athleisure. But I also changed in the ways that maybe you can’t put your finger on. In the “Did she get botox? Something is different…” kind of ways.
The changes looked like prayers in the morning. I broke up with hustle and grind. I said “yes” to most all opportunities I had to spend time with people I love instead of “yes” to work and “pick your brain” coffee dates and people I barely knew. And I was forced to start looking for the blessings in each and every day because it was entirely too easy for me to head down the What-If Rabbit Hole.
Now here we are in a brand new year and I wondered if all those blessings I looked for and found - happy adventures, pretty things, kind hearted people, and simple moments - might get YOU out of a What-If Rabbit Hole. I mean, if they can pull my overactive brain out of a deep dark well maybe they’ll at the very least remind you to look for the good things surrounding you.
So I decided to write you a love letter, asking you to look for the Good Things and Good People. Asking you to prioritize the feel-good important things and people now. Not later. Not to be a downer but we aren’t guaranteed a “later” so there really is no better time than Now.
Is this a cancer blog?
Nope. Maybe? I don’t know. It’s more of a cancer changed my life newsletter with some sobriety, midlife, travel, fitness, fashion, food stuff thrown in. Dare I say “lifestyle”? But you know, the fun, funny, feel good lifestyle that promises not to influence you to buy a razor subscription but rather to influence you to volunteer? Or go to the gym? Or take a nap? Or go visit your Mom?
It’s also a “let’s look for the good stuff” place (hence Good Things Good People) and a “let’s SHARE the good stuff place”. Substack lets me write but it also lets us chat, I can’t wait to hear your good stuff:)
Are you going to blow up my inbox that already has 1,532 unread emails?
Hard no. I had big plans to tell you that I was going to write to you once a week every Friday for all eternity but my therapist said “hold up”. Because this is my thing, I can’t seem to just dip my toe in the water. I COMMIT. Then I want to kick myself when it’s Sunday night and I haven’t written a word and now I’m overwhelmed and so I shut it all down. So no. I hope to write to you when I have something to say. Also, please get your inbox self together;)
I’m so happy to have you here <3
Thank you for spending your time with me. Share the newsletter with friends and family, anyone you feel could use some good stuff. The more community we have the more good things good people we have and we for sure could use a little more of that.
K. Be good.
xo
Breath of fresh air. Sending love.
I look forward to these!
